A Perfect Weekend Getaway How-To

A Perfect Weekend Getaway How-To

Spring is finally here, summer is just around the corner and we all know that means vacation is in the air.  Sometimes vacations are so few and far between that planning and the pressure to make it perfect can be stressful.  Fortunately, here at Lucy’s we are vacation experts. Here are a few tips to keep in mind as you make your way to the beach, lake, or mountains.

1.Pack the essentials

The key to a great vacation is to not sweat the small stuff - so why worry about cramming your closet into your suitcase for a 3 day trip?  Pack only the essentials for your weekend vacation so you can focus on enjoying yourself and the time away from home. Worrying about looking good on vacation is bringing your home-life worries with you, so leave the makeup on the bathroom counter and go au-natural for a few days.  Some items that should definitely make the trip include sunscreen, sunglasses, great music and speakers (preferably waterproof), comfortable shoes, and your favorite swimsuit!

2. Power down

Not only should you not sweat the small stuff on vacation, but you really shouldn’t sweat the big stuff either.  Leave your laptop and tablet at home so if you ARE tempted to do any work or worry about things at home, you’ll remember that you left those items for a reason (and it’s a lot harder to get anything done on your phone).  It is also a good idea to leave your phone on “do not disturb” so you can immerse yourself in your vacation. Your work will be waiting for you when you get back - take the chance to let your brain relax along with the rest of your body.

3. Bring your favorite foods

Arguably one of the best parts of any vacation is taking a break from cooking.  While this typically applies to exotic locations and resorts, a trip to a local beach or lake can be even more exciting with this small consideration.  It’s a good idea to have these meals planned before you leave so you do not have to worry about going grocery shopping while you’re on vacation time. Weekend getaway pros know that pre-made meals that you can toss in the oven are the best way to go, and fortunately Lucy’s is stocked with all kinds.  Banana bread and breakfast casseroles are great breakfast go-tos. Also, don’t forget about cocktail hour! Grab some dips, crackers, and salads for an easy cooler snack when you’re out and about.

4. Un~wine~d

We have three words for your weekend vacation: rosé. all. day.  With the light, fruity flavor that rosés are known for, you can’t go wrong taking a bottle or two for you and your friends while soaking up the sun.  Before you go, be sure you know the law of the land when you pack your cooler as most destinations do not permit glass on the beach. Fortunately, a few companies have started packaging their wine in cans, making it easy to bring along your favorite beverage.  Fill your cooler with cans of wine or stock up on some vacation-proof lucite glasses, available at Lucy’s.

5. Leave a hostess gift

If you’re fortunate to be a guest at a lake house, beach house, or mountain house, be sure to thank them with an awesome gift!  We would recommend none other than one of our Lucy’s Market Baskets. We have baskets available to order online but you can also call the store and order a custom basket!  We have cocktail napkins, dish towels, wine, flowers, and incredible snacks and provisions. Bring all of these together and what do you have? A perfect thank you and, hopefully, an invitation to go back next weekend!

There you have it! It’s not too hard, but taking these steps into consideration when preparing for your trip will maximize your relaxation time and minimize your worries, which is what vacation is all about! Stop by Lucy’s for some great trip essentials - and don’t forget the basket!
